Photo Journal - Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is a compositional guide used by photographers as well as filmmakers. It is a grid that is split into thirds horizontally and vertically. The photographer can use the grid as a way to line up their shots to emphasis key features. In the picture that I took (above) I lined the sky up with the top most section, and the ground with the lower most section. I also lined the truck on the left with the two left points of emphasis. The points of emphasis are the four corners of the middle third. The viewers eyes are naturally drawn to rest at these points which aids the photographer in creating pleasing composition. I like to use the rule of thirds as a guide for all of the shots that I take.
